Legally Speaking

The laws of equality live here.

We breathe and act them daily.

Those laws cover everything involved in anti-discrimination, human rights, workplace and employment laws, and lawyers' professional ethics

6 April 2022

Launch Day!

On this special occasion, we honour Grata Flos Matilda Greig who made possible legal practise for all women.

On 6 April 1903, after substantial agitation by Grata Flos Matilda Greig Victoria passed inaugural law removing the sex condition for legal practice becoming the first state of Australia to permit women to be admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Research tells us

We combine theory with practice to better inform you about how to avoid harm to others, and to yourself while being at work, and other places and spaces where the laws of equality apply.

We'll inform you about the things you don't know, and remind you about the things you studied in your undergraduate years.

THE DSP TEAM

Fairness and action to prevent harm are at the centre of law, which is Carol's research field.

That's when as Founder she's not overseeing The Dear Sir(s) Project in its many activities.

With an undergraduate major in Sociology, Alessia teaches us just how important sociology is to the legal profession.

When not teaching some stalwarts, or supporting the team generally, Alessia is our Editor.

The Dear Sir(s) Project's writing and future development would be the same without her.

As Sub-Editor, Joanna keeps our style in tune.

in her daily life, Joanna is a principal solicitor at a Bayside location practising broadly from property law to estates' planning and aged care advice.

we VOLUNTEER for

Integrity in legal practise

We raise awareness and improve prevention strategies.

Informing Clients through non-violent language

We fight for equality to manifest in lawyers' non-violent language.

Non-violent behaviour in society

We fight against all forms of harm, discrimination and other injustices regardless of the space.

who we are

We are a non-profit volunteer largely student research team that aims to:

  1. make the equality of law a lived experience for lawyers and beyond
  2. explore and teach the origins of violence to our communities as we work toward it ceasing
  3. end all forms of harm to non-CIShet Anglo Saxon male identifying people
  4. break down barriers, end discrimination, and disprove archetypes
  5. teach lawyers to teach their clients by being exemplars of assertive but non-aggressive language
